Profiles of Resilience (Circles)

Profiles of Resilience is an ongoing portrait series that traces the Black experience through time by looking forward rather than back.

Each 4-inch side-profile portrait faces the same direction, forming a visual procession toward a shared destination—a place long imagined and named home. The figures span generations and disciplines, united not by fame or perfection, but by resilience rooted in conviction.

The side profile is intentional. These figures do not perform for the viewer, nor do they linger in the past. Their forward gaze signals continuity, movement, and responsibility.

Created in the spirit of Sister Africa, the series considers how a people endure, remember, and carry meaning across time. Each portrait functions as a witness within a larger story still unfolding.
